Land Day 2025
At the invitation of the Commander of the Land Component, Major General Jean-Pol Baugnée (HSSD alumnus), the participants of the 20th session of the High Studies for Security and Defence were welcomed as VIPs on 17 September 2025 at Land Day.
This annual event of the Belgian Land Component gathered around 1,400 attendees from the military, political, academic, and industrial spheres under the theme “Building up to Deter.”
After an impressive expert panel and the traditional address by the Commander of the Land Component, the Minister of Defence, Mr Theo Francken, outlined the latest developments within Defence. The highlight of the day, however, was the official and ceremonial presentation of the very first “Griffon” delivered to Belgium.
This state-of-the-art armoured vehicle can be deployed for combat, reconnaissance, logistical support, and medical evacuation. It combines enhanced protection, greater mobility, and operational versatility. Moreover, its cutting-edge communication systems ensure significantly improved cooperation with our European and NATO partners.
As always, industry representatives were given the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations, and in the evening, participants were able to expand their networks at the VIP reception.
