Completely neglected by the media, the Sahel is one of the poorest regions in the world, as well as being heavily plagued by drugs and severely affected by climate change.
The region has also seen political instability unlike any other place in the world.
In this episode, Colonel Éric Kalajzic of the Royal Higher Institute for Defence(RHID) in Brussels, former head of private office to the MINUSMA Force Commander in Mali, delves deeper into this topic.
While parts of the region managed to reach a level of stability for a while, the Sahel has descended once again into political turmoil, marked by a series of coups.
