On 13 September, the first visit of the 17th HSSD session took place. The auditors were invited to participate in the Distinguished Visitors Day of the “Storm Tide” exercise, led by the Special Operations Regiment and simulating the evacuation of Belgian nationals from a crisis theatre in Africa. On this occasion, the auditors had the chance to board an A400M for a short flight from the rear base in Koksijde to the forward base of the operation in Weelde, where numerous extras played the role of the civilian population in distress, waiting to be evacuated to Belgium. The day ended with a presentation by Major General Aviator Frederik Vansina, assistant chief of staff Strategy, on the Belgian defence policy.
