The deterioration of the security environment, coupled with Europe’s current industrial limitations and the urgent need for capabilities, has made the South Korean defence industry the new major supplier to European armed forces. While reliance on the South Korean defence industry offers rapid delivery, licensed production, interoperability and targeted industrial transfers, it also presents a challenge in terms of strategic dependence. This e-Note raises the question of how long reliance on South Korea’s defence capabilities should be maintained.
